Rebuilding: A study exhibition of World Trade Center site proposals, commentaries, responses
Exhibition on display at the Urban Center Galleries
January 10 - March 7, 2003
New York City - On Friday, January 10, the Architectural League opened to the public Rebuilding, a study exhibition organized to
further public understanding and response to the issues surrounding the redevelopment of the World Trade Center Site, and the
nine "innovative design" proposals recently released by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC). The exhibition brings
together a variety of materials including: interactive computer kiosks featuring video presentations by the architects of the nine
new design proposals; a timeline that highlights significant developments in the downtown rebuilding process from September 2001
to the present; materials published by the LMDC, including the program given to the architects participating in the "innovative
design" study and the original Request for Qualifications through which the architects were chosen; press commentary on the
proposals; and responses from a range of groups and coalitions that have studied the rebuilding process. Additional relevant
materials will be added to the exhibition over the course of its run.
The seven architecture teams that prepared proposals are:
Foster and Partners
Peterson/Littenberg Architecture and Urban Design
Richard Meier, Peter Eisenman, Gwathmey Siegel & Associates, and Steven Holl
a team led by Skidmore Owings & Merrill
Studio Daniel Libeskind
